MUSCAT Grapes=Moscato WINE
From recent studies of genetic ampelography it would seem that Moscato was the forefather of all grapes, the first to cultivated, from which all the other varieties currently grown or known are said to descend.
It is said to have originated in Greece, but over the centuries Moscato adapted to the soils of Piedmont very well, giving birth to a particular variety, later to become better known as Moscato Bianco di Canelli.
The oldest documents that mention cultivation of Moscato in Piedmont mention cultivation in the village of Canale in 1303. The economic importance and commercial interest were so great that many Municipalities protected its cultivation, while others tried to increase it.
